the inspection i did a week ago i saw fresh eggs and everything seemed good. This last inspection i did there was no new eggs and about 11 supersedure queen cells that popped up. im wondering if i should attempt to find a new mated queen for the winter or just let a new queen hatch and hope that she survives a mating flight and returns before winter. My concern with letting it play out would be if she has enough time for her mating flight before it gets too cold and if there will be a good enough drone population out there for her. im leaning towards requeening in the next couple days but any information/recommendations or leads on how to get a mated queen this late in the season would be greatly appreciated.
It's hard to say. This fall has been unusually long and there is not a killing frost in the 10 weather forecast. I've not been keeping an eye on the drone numbers but assume there are enough around for a successful mating flight still. They will be aging out and tossed out of the hive as weather cools but it seems there is still time which is not the norm. Most years we'd have frost by now.
