Hi — My hive died last winter and I was not able to extract the honey left in the hive before now. I’m not sure why they died — with COVID distractions, I did not treat for varroa, so that might be why. Can I use some existing frames to feed a new colony arriving in a few weeks? Is the honey that is still in the hive (its been in an unheated room in the basement) safe to be extracted and bottled? Advice appreciated!
Yes, you can use it for a new colony. Because you didn't treat for varroa, you can extract if the honey if it isn't crystallized.
