Hi there everyone. We are purchasing a new property on Grand Isle, and move in seven or so weeks.

We are also getting one fenced Langstroth hive full of bees. I have always planned on having bees, but now I’m feeling like I’ve been thrown into bee husbandry. My goal this year is to keep the colony healthy and warm/ready for winter.

I have three beekeeping books and an inspection journal coming next week. We are Covid cautious because of our young kids, and can’t travel to study in person from beekeepers. Does anyone know of videos, online classes or just advice that can help orient me in the next seven weeks, before I’m entrusted with this hive?

Thank you.

Right off the bat you can read everything on this website beginning with this page.

Make sure you become familiar with Vermont Beekeeping laws and regulations and register your hives in order to be legal and to help fight disease.

We've had a number of online workshops over the past few years that have been recorded - most recently this past Thursday - which serves as a good introduction. When logged into the VBA website you can access them under the Calendar menu, specifically "Past Workshops & Events Recordings."
